Wednesday December 2, 2020 – Golf is back baby! Alright, I guess the Mayakoba Golf Classic isn’t that exciting. But, at least there’s a pretty strong field…and strong oceanfront views.
Seven of the top 30 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are in attendance, led by Justin Thomas (3), Brooks Koepka (12), and Daniel Berger (13). Defending champion, Brendon Todd (47) is also in the field and looking to repeat.
El Camaleon Golf Club at Mayakoba Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico is a shorter track. At just over 7,000 yards and Par 71, expect players to go low even with the less than favorable weather forecast. The past two tournament champions, Matt the “cheapskate” Kuchar and Brendon Todd finished at -22 and -20 respectively.
In all, the 132-man field will be competing for a $7,200,000 purse.

Where should you allocate your hard-earned money this week?
It’s the Holiday season. And, you’re probably in the giving spirit. So, if you feel like giving money to your favorite bookie or sportsbook, here’s our two-cents.
Justin Thomas (13-2), Brooks Koepka (11-1), Harris English (16-1), and Tony Finau (18-1) are the favorites. But, that’s not where our heads are at this week. No, no, no. There are levels to our (admittedly shitty) betting previews.
Have you ever heard of home-field advantage? We’re rolling with Abraham Ancer (22-1) and Carlos Ortiz (35-1) this week. Yeah, neither of them grew up remotely close to Playa del Carmen, but whatever. Ancer is rolling off a strong showing at the Masters and Ortiz won the Houston Open last month.
Strong enough logic in our book…
