Friday January 8, 2020 – With the new year comes new sponsorships…at least if you’re one of the best in the world at what you do and your contract is running out. Anyway, a few moves have made headlines recently.

Three of the Top 11 golfers in the world have either signed new deals or parted ways with existing sponsors: Dustin Johnson (No. 1), John Rahm (No. 2), and Patrick Reed (No. 11).

Jon Rahm

A few days back it was announced that Jon Rahm had left TaylorMade for Callaway. The terms of the deal were not announced, but you’d have to imagine that the No. 2 player in the world cleaned up. Rahm joins Phil and Xander Schauffele as the marquis golfers on Callaway’s team.

“I’m so happy to be joining Callaway, and I can’t wait to start the year. The equipment is already performing well for me, and in my first round with the new setup, I shot a course record 59 at Silverleaf. I have confidence in my new Callaway clubs—and especially the golf ball, which has really impressed me during the testing process.”

Patrick Reed

Reed’s apparel contract expired with Nike at the end of 2020.  So, he showed up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions rocking G/FORE. However, it seems that the gear was purchased on his own dime. Here is what a representative from G/Fore had to say:

“We are happy anytime we hear someone is enjoying our products and though Patrick is not on our roster for 2021, we are glad to learn he enjoys our gear!”

Not quite sure what this means for Patrick moving forward, but hopefully we won’t have to see him rocking his “Sunday Red” anytime soon.

Dustin Johnson

DJ signed a (lucrative) multi-year extension to remain with TaylorMade. He’s been with them since his PGA Tour debut over 14-years ago.

With the departure of Rahm from TaylorMade’s roster, this was a high-priority get for TaylorMade.

Which brand was the winner you ask?

Easy, G/FORE. Any time you can associate your brand with a true fan favorite, the kind of golfer that youngsters aspire to be, the kind of golfer that upholds the integrity of this great game, it’s a win.

You can win clubs and gear from all of these brands by becoming a member of the club. Just ten cents a day…
